KUWAIT UNIVERSITY 2008,
ARCHITECTURE DEPARTMENT - THIRD YEAR DESIGN STUDIO
Using casting and tessellation techniques to encourage students to design through making and to use the apparent possibilities and limitations of certain materials and processes, students were encouraged to create forms and space to be used as basis for the second part of the project.
Using Kuwait University as a site, students used the above exercise to design a 'symbiotic habitat', a space mutually inter-dependant with its adjacent environment, to be used by occupants of the university.
Material and technical explorations
THIRD YEAR DESIGN STUDIO
Using the concept of the 'Symbiotic Habitat' project, the students first surveyed and studied three sites and and responded with designs for Inhabitable Bridges. Existing activities as well as potential ones were identified and used as catalysts for programmes for the bridges as well as solutions to connect fragmented areas of the sites.
